LC Field Hockey Breezes Past Shenandoah in Hornet Battle

LC Box Score vs. Shenandoah

Kristina Morris assisted on two of LC's 11 goals Friday night.                LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored the first four goals of the contest as the Lynchburg College field hockey team won its fourth straight game Friday with an 11-0 blanking of Shenandoah University in the annual battle of the Hornets.

Weir opened the scoring 6:03 into the contest, as she converted a Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) pass for the opening tally. Weir would score three more times over the next five minutes to give LC (7-4) a commanding lead.

Seniors Cassie Westman (Centreville, VA/Queen Anne’s) and Megan Kempel (Millington, MD/Queen Anne’s) each scored off of penalty corners shortly before the half to give Lynchburg a 6-0 lead going into the intermission. Shenandoah (0-12) was awarded a penalty stroke with 2:26 left in the half, but Jocelyn Whitt’s shot was deflected wide.

After halftime, LC continued its pressure as five different Hornets scored throughout the second half. Katie Brennan (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) scored her first goal of the season at 48:01, followed by goals from Lindsey Cooper (Fredericksburg, VA/Courtland), Erin Majerowicz (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake), Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and Megan Cipolloni (Fort Washington, PA/Germantown).

Lynchburg held a 41-4 shot advantage, also earning 15 penalty corners to Shenandoah’s three. Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) combined for LC’s first shutout of the season, each making one save, while SU keeper Danielle Lawson stopped 11 shots in net. Morris finished with two assists for Lynchburg, as 10 of the 11 goals scored by LC were assisted on.

LC has a quick turnaround, as it will entertain the Bobcats of Frostburg State University Saturday afternoon in another non-conference tussle at 2 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
