LC Womens Cross Country Runs at Paul Short Invitational
BETHLEHEM, PA – The Lynchburg College women’s cross country team competed in the 35th annual Paul Short Invitational Friday, hosted by Lehigh University. LC finished 14th out of 37 teams in the White race, which was run by non-Division I teams and runners over a six kilometer course.
The Hornet harriers were paced by junior Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale), who finished with a 23:22 for 49th overall place. Sophomore Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) finished 69th with a time of 23:49, while teammate and fellow sophomore Lindsay Fender (Fork Union, VA/Fluvanna Co.) was 92nd overall in a time of 24:11.
Senior Megan Donnelly (McLean, VA/McLean) scored for LC, finishing 96th after booking a time of 24:14. Sophomores Stephanie Searing (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) and Erin Grogan (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) finished 141st and 155th, respectively, with Whitney Markey (Montpelier, VA/Louisa Co.) also scoring for Lynchburg with a time of 28 minutes even.
Christa Johnson of Ursinus took home top honors with a time of 21:38, as she was the only runner in the race to hold a sub-seven minute pace. Cortland State grabbed the team title as the Red Dragons posted seven finishers in the top 66, including the second finisher in Andi Palen.
Lynchburg competes again Saturday, October 18 at the Gettysburg Invitational.
