Caitlin Gibb Scores Twice in 5-1 LC Victory Over Sweet Briar College

Caitlin Gibb scored twice in a 5-1 win over SBC.                SWEET BRIAR, VA – Sophomore midfielder Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) scored two goals as the Lynchburg College field hockey team rolled past Sweet Briar College 5-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Wednesday.

The Hornets  (6-4/2-1 ODAC) opened the scoring five minutes into the contest, as Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) converted a penalty corner with help from Gibb to make the score 1-0. The Hornets added on just 1:23 later, as Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) chalked up her first collegiate goal to give Lynchburg a two-score advantage.

The Vixens responded less than a minute later, as Melissa Carron tallied to cut the LC lead in half at the 27:46 mark of the first half. Gibb finished off the scoring in the first period, as she notched two goals in a six-minute stretch, both coming off of penalty corners. Senior attack Cassie Westman (Centreville, VA/Queen Anne’s) scored her first goal of the season to close the contest’s scoring.

The Hornets held a 40-7 shot advantage, also earning 21 penalty corners to SBC’s five. Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) made three saves in her first action as a collegiate for LC, while Madeline Wilson 27 saves for the Vixens. Junior Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) and Carter Maxey (Midlothian, VA/James River) also each assisted one of Gibb’s goals.

Lynchburg entertains Shenandoah University for non-conference play Friday night at 6 p.m. on Shellenberger Field.
