No. 2 Hornet Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with VWC

LC Box Score vs. Virginia Wesleyan

LYNCHBURG, VA – The No. 2 Lynchburg College women’s soccer team and Virginia Wesleyan College battled through 110 minutes, but neither team could net a goal as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie.

Anna Wright made three saves in net vs. VWC Saturday night.                The Hornets (9-0-2/2-0-1 ODAC) controlled the pace of play in the first half, outshooting the Marlins 11-2. LC had a few scoring opportunities but could not take advantage, partly because Marlins keeper Allison Lennox made six of her 10 saves in the first stanza.

In the second frame, the Marlins (4-1-3/4-0-1 ODAC) began to battle back as they forced LC to play in its own end much of the half. The best scoring opportunity of the match came at 95:21 of the match, as LC freshman midfielder Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) headed a cross towards the goal but was thwarted again by a Lennox save.

For the match, LC outshot Virginia Wesleyan 17-8 while holding a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Lynchburg goalkeeper Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) finished the contest with three saves. Klippstein led all shooters with five attempts at goal, with VWC being paced by Katie Kooiman’s pair of shots.

The Hornets get a week of rest before taking on Hollins University next Saturday for Parents and Family Weekend at 4:30 on Shellenberger Field in another ODAC match.
