Michael Abbonizio Nets Two As LC Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Wasps 4-0

LC Box Score vs. E&H

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore Michael Abbonizio (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham, Sr.) scored the first two goals, and LC added two more for good measure as the Hornet men’s soccer team defeated Emory & Henry College 4-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Saturday afternoon.

Abbonizio got LC on the board 23:03 into the match, as he converted a beautiful play with assists going to both Cam Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) and Ryan Renfro (Forest, VA/Brookeville). Lynchburg carried a 1-0 advantage into the intermission, but added three second half goals to put the game out of reach.

Abbonizio notched his second goal of the day, an unassisted score, at 55:59 of the game. Four minutes later, Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) scored his team-best ninth goal of the season with help from Renfro. Pat Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Christchurch) finished the afternoon scoring with an unassisted tally at 64:33.

Lynchburg College outshot the Wasps (4-4/0-2 ODAC) 31-10, though E&H did earn more corner kicks, posting an 8-4 edge in that category. Hornet keeper Matt Sturdivant (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) played most of the game and made five saves, while Daniel Mills stopped nine shots in the loss.

The Hornets (7-2/3-0 ODAC) travel to Guilford College for an ODAC match-up Wednesday at 4 p.m.
