No. 2 LC Women’s Soccer Knocks Off Guilford 4-0
GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College women’s soccer team, ranked second in the recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas D-III Poll, improved to 9-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Thursday with a 4-0 win over Guilford College in miserable conditions from Haworth Field.
The weather was the main story, as a constant downpour and gusts up to 40 mph gave both teams fits. LC got its first goal with about 20 minutes to play in the first half, as Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) buried a pass from Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) to give the Hornets the early lead. Kwiatkowski’s assist was her ninth of the season, which leads the conference and is tops nationally.
After the break, LC erupted for three scores, two coming from Kwiatkowski. Sophomore Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) chalked up her seventh goal of the season, notching a tally for a fourth-straight contest.
Lynchburg held a 23-3 shot advantage, also topping the Quakers (2-6/1-2 ODAC) in the corner kick category, 7-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) booked her fourth clean sheet of the year, as counterpart Amber Stapler made 10 saves in net for the home team.
The Hornets now turn their attention to a huge ODAC battle this weekend, as preseason league favorite Virginia Wesleyan College comes to Shellenberger Field Saturday night at 7 p.m.
