Lynchburg Cross Country Runs at Dickinson Long/Short Invite
CARLISLE, PA – The Hornet cross country teams competed in the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational Saturday, as the men took home fifth place and the ladies finished ninth place. The Long/Short Invite consisted of an 8.1 and four meter runs for the men and six and four meter runs for the women, with the combined scores from both races making up the final standings.
For the Hornet women, the top three times from the four and six meter runs were combined, and LC finished ninth out of 15 complete team scores. Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NJ/APW) finished with the best placing, earning 26th in the 6M run in a time of 24:30. Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) took home 29th place in the 4M run, clocking a 15:36. Sophomore Erin Grogan (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) and Kelly Doescher (Stafford, VA/Colonial Forge) earned 51st and 53rd place in the 6M run, respectively, while Lindsay Fender (Fork Union, VA/Fluvanna Co.) took home 52nd place in the 4M run in a time of 16:10. Freshman Jamie Lull (Providence Forge, VA/New Kent) also scored for LC, as she took home 58th place in the 4M run in a time of 16:13.
The Lynchburg College men finished fifth place out of 19 teams, combining scores from an 8.1 meter and 4 meter runs. Junior Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) ran a fantastic 8.1 meter race, finishing fourth overall, while teammate Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) was right behind him in ninth place. Rich Apgar (Somers, NY/Somers) was the top 4M finisher for LC, crossing the line in 12:52 for 30th place. Brandon Demers (Cypress, TX/Leonardtown) finished 42nd with in a time of 12:59, while Todd Apgar (Somers, NY/Somers) booked a time of 13:11 for 51st place. Freshman Lawrence Minor (Mineral, VA/Louisa) also scored for LC, trekking the long course for a 35th place finish.
The Lynchburg men will travel to San Antonio, TX on October 4 for the Pre-NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet, while the women will compete at the Paul Short Invite at Lehigh University Friday, October 3.
