Katie Santos Nets two as #4 LC women Defeat Meredith 5-1

 CARY, NC – Meredith College hung tough in the first half with the fourth-ranked Lynchburg College women’s soccer team, but the Hornets outscored the Angels 4-0 in the second half for a 5-1 win Sunday in non-conference play.

 Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) scored just 5:23 into the game, but Meredith’s Maggie Hart tied the game at one all five minutes later. Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) scored from Shawn Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd E. Kellam) 7:30 after intermission and Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) scored the first of her two goals, also from Jackson, one minute later. Santos and Katelyn LeRiche (Guilford, CT/Guilford) added insurance goals.

 Lynchburg (8-0-1) out-shot the Avenging Angels 18-7 and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

 The Hornets head back to North Carolina to square off with Guilford College Thursday at 4 p.m.
