Weirs Lead No. 20 LC Field Hockey Over St. Mary’s College 5-1

LC Box Score vs. St. Mary's College

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD – Junior Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored once and assisted on another goal, while Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) matched her sister’s effort as the Hornets of Lynchburg College knocked off St. Mary’s College 5-1 Sunday in non-conference field hockey play.

Jenny Weir opened the scoring at 9:33 with help from her sister, but the Seahawks (4-3) responded with a Ryan O’Malley goal right before the half to send the game into intermission deadlocked. Following the halftime break, LC (4-4) scored two goals in a span of just 25 seconds. Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) notched her first goal of the season at the 38:02 mark of the game, followed shortly by Allie Weir’s team-leading 10th goal of the year.

Freshman midfielder Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) and senior forward Megan Kempel (Millington, MD/Queen Anne's) each scored their first goal of the year to close out the scoring for LC. The Hornets took 19 shots to the Seahawks' 10, while Lynchburg held a 7-5 margin on penalty corners.

Sophomore Emma Lauhoff picked up eight stops in the loss, while junior Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) recorded three saves in the Lynchburg win.

Lynchburg is off until this Saturday when it returns to Shellenberger Field for the first time in three weeks for a conference contest with the Generals of Washington & Lee University at 1 p.m.
