Hornet Men Force Overtime but fall 2-1 at Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College men’s soccer team forced overtime with a tally with under a minute remaining, but #17 ranked Salisbury University netted a goal in the extra period to escape with a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls scored just before the end of the first half on an unassisted goal by Benjamin Reed. The one-goal Salisbury lead held up until 55 ticks remained on the game clock, as Hornet junior Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) found sophomore Cam Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) to send the game into overtime. The tally broke a scoreless streak of 687 minutes by the Sea Gull defense. Salisbury took home the win in the 102nd minute when Romaine Bruney scored from Mike Napolitano.

Salisbury (8-0) out-shot the Hornets 12-10 and was awarded six corner kicks to LC’s four.

Lynchburg (5-2) opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday, traveling to Eastern Mennonite University at 7:30 p.m.
