BOX SCORE

METHODIST, NC – Junior midfielder Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) scored twice and added an assist Saturday afternoon as the fourth-ranked Lynchburg College women’s soccer team traveled to Methodist University and defeated the Monarchs 5-1.

Hoath scored three minutes before halftime on a feed from Shawn Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd E. Kellam) and LC led just 1-0 at the break despite an 11-0 advantage in shots. Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) scored from Jess Mader (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) shortly after the break, but MU countered with a Danielle Minichello tally at 54:52. Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) was assisted by Hoath at 58:02 to give LC a 3-1 cushion, and Hoath scored again 4:35 later to put the game out of reach, from Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air). Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) netted an insurance goal from Beverly Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) on a header.

The Hornets outshot Methodist 22-4 and held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Kasey Nichols made nine stops for the Monarchs (2-5).

LC (7-0-1) travels to Meredith College Sunday for a 2 p.m. start.
