EMU Powers Past No. 20 Lynchburg Field Hockey 2-0 Friday

LC Box Score vs. EMU

HARRISONBURG, VA – The No. 20 Lynchburg College field hockey fell behind early and could not respond as LC fell to Eastern Mennonite University 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.

EMU (6-1/1-0 ODAC) struck early on in the contest at 1:17, as Julie Denlinger converted a penalty corner with help from Katie Cimini and Hailee Rittle. The Lady Royals doubled their lead just eight minutes later, converting another penalty corner with the goal coming by way of Alyssa Derstine.

LC (3-4/0-1 ODAC) fought back in the second half, and had multiple chances to score but Lady Royal’s goalkeeper Becky Nolt was stellar all night. Nolt stopped 10 shots on the evening, eight coming in the second stanza to preserve the lead. Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) led the team with five shots, while freshman Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) fired shot on the night. LC outshot Eastern Mennonite 18-8 for the game, while also holding a 17-6 edge in penalty corners.

Lynchburg now turns its attention to Sunday, where the Hornets will travel to St. Mary’s (MD) College for a 2 p.m. start time.
