Allie Weir Notches Hat Trick in No. 18 LC Field Hockey 3-1 Win

OWINGS MILL, MD – Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored three goals as the No. 18 Hornets of Lynchburg College snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Stevenson University (MD) in non-conference field hockey action Sunday.

LC (3-3) jumped out to a quick lead as Weir scored a goal from sister Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) at the 17:03 mark of the first half. Weir notched her second goal of the game at 8:53 of the first half, when she received a pass from Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) and put it past SU keeper Kara Zimmerman.

Stevenson (3-3) cut the Lynchburg lead to one with 25 minutes to go in the second half, getting a goal from Katelyn Manocheh. That was as close as the Mustangs would get, as Weir completed her hat trick with 9:06 left in the second half with help from Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View).

Lynchburg out the Mustangs 17-6, while also holding a 13-2 advantage in the penalty corner category. Hornet goalkeeper Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) stopped one shot in net, while Zimmerman made six saves for the host Mustangs. Weir’s hat-trick was the ninth of her career, and second this season.

Lynchburg begins Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Friday afternoon in Harrisonburg, VA as the Hornets take on Eastern Mennonite University at 6:30 p.m.
