Volleyball Splits at Day Two of the Centre College Classic

DANVILLE, KY – The Lynchburg College volleyball team split on Sunday with Knox and Transylvania in day two action from the Centre College Classic. LC beat Knox 3-2 then lost 3-2 to Transylvania.

LC lost the first set 12-25 to Knox, split the next two sets 25-17 and 24-26, then breezed to victories in the final two sets by scores of 25-13 and 15-6. Erin Heffelfinger (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) hit a team-high 16 kills and also had 12 digs while Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) had seven kills and 18 digs. Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) posted 13 kills and 4.5 blocks, Savannah Tinsley (Lynchburg, VA/EC Glass) contributed with 16 digs and two service aces, and Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) dished out 39 assists and also collected 12 digs.

Lynchburg fell to Transylvania by scores of 27-25, 22-25, 25-11, 19-25, and 15-12. Kritter posted 13 kills and 12 digs, Heffelfinger hit 10 kills, and Giordano had 37 assists and three service aces. Tinsley contributed with 20 digs and two service aces and Tiffany Goodman (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) collected 15 digs. Chelsea Jones (Richmond, VA/Monocan) blocked five attack attempts while Boucher and Ashley Stokes (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) each recorded four blocks.

Lynchburg will play their home and Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., squaring off against the Quakers of Guilford College.
