Salisbury Wins Shellenberger Classic


LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's soccer team prevailed over the visiting Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College 3-1 in the Shellenberger Classic from Lynchburg, VA.


Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy)
opened the scoring at the 18:12 mark with an unassisted free kick tally. Ryan Renfro (Forest, VA/Brookville) scored off a deflected pass from Robert Lee Green (Bumpass, VA/Louisa County) just 3:28 into the second half to put LC up 2-1. The Presidents' Jeremy Delmaster scored W&J's lone goal 52:06 into the contest. Michael Abbonizio (Maple Glen, VA/Hatboro-Horsham) added an insurance goal for the Hornets off a pass from Cam Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) six minutes later.


Lynchburg outshot W&J 20-14 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Matt Sturdivant (Bear, DE/Caravel) played all 90 minutes in net and recorded five saves for the win while Tyler Hodgins notched seven saves for the Presidents (0-2).
