Lynchburg Plays to 1-1 tie with Salisbury Women
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Salisbury University women’s soccer team rallied late and the Sea Gulls and Lynchburg College played to a 1-1 double overtime tie Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Shellenberger Classic.
Freshman midfielder Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) scored an unassisted goal at 21:58 of the first half and the Hornets maintained the 1-0 lead for the next 50 minutes of play. Dana Passucci scored with 18:43 left on the game clock for Salisbury, and neither team could find the back of the net for the remaining regulation time and both 10-minute overtime periods.
Gena Goodson made 11 saves to keep the Sea Gulls (2-1-1) within striking distance, while Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) made four stops for LC. Lynchburg outshot SU 28-9, but Salisbury held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Lynchburg (3-0-1) hosts Greensboro College Wednesday at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.
