Lebanon Valley Field Hockey Defeats LC 4-3 in OT

LYNCHBURG, VA - Rachel Pantalone scored from Erika Peter with 1:14 left on the clock in overtime to lift the fifth-ranked Lebanon Valley College field hockey team to a 4-3 win Saturday over #17 Lynchburg College on Shellenberger Field.

Junior Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) opened the scoring in the battle of top 20 squads with an unassisted goal 5:35 into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen answered with three-straight tallies, the first from Jocelyn Novak, the second on a penalty stroke from Avery Carter and the third netted by Sarah Bevins. Lebanon Valley led 3-1 at the break, but the Hornets began to rally with a score from Carter Maxey (Midlothian, VA/James River) on assists from Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) and Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) four minutes after intermission. Funkhouser scored her second goal of the game at the 60:26 mark, again unassisted, and the game went into overtime.

Lebanon Valley held a 16-13 edge in shots and a 13-8 advantage in penalty corners. Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) made nine saves for LC, and Caitlin Baro stopped five shots for LVC.

Lynchburg (2-1) faces Franklin & Marshall Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Roanoke College.
