Hornet Women’s Soccer Defeats Montclair State 3-2

          HAVERFORD, PA – The Lynchburg College women’s soccer team defeated Montclair State (NJ) 3-2 Saturday afternoon in the first day of play of the Haverford University Kick-off Tournament.

          The Hornets struck at the 12:56 mark of the first half, as a Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) cross found freshman Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) for the game’s first score. Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson pushed the lead to 2-0 mid-way through the half on an assist from Beverly Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon), but Montclair State’s Jackie McGrath scored just before the break.

          LC freshman Brittany Klippstein (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) notched an important unassisted insurance goal at 58:22, as the Red Hawks scored with just over 10 minutes remaining, with Rachel Senyszyn feeding Liza Offreda for the tally.

          Lynchburg outshot Montclair State 22-11 and were awarded eight corner kicks to the Red Hawks’ one. Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) and Anna Wright (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) split time in net, combining for five saves. Leah Tepperman made eight stops for Montclair (0-1).    

          Haverford defeated Arcadia University 2-0 in Saturday’s other game, pitting Lynchburg against the host school Sunday at 1 p.m. for the tournament title.
