Volleyball Prevails in Three against Catholic, Loses in Three to Mary Washington

 HARRISONBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team cruised past Catholic University 25-17, 25-18, and 25-19 Saturday morning in non-conference action at the EMU Tournament, but fell in three to the University of Mary Washington in the nightcap.

 Sophomore setter Darby Wheeler (Keswick, VA/Monticello) posted a team-high 23 assists while junior libero Savannah Tinsley (Lynchburg, VA/EC Glass) and freshman outside hitter Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) contributed with 22 digs and 10 digs respectively. Junior rightside Chelsea Jones (Richmond, VA/Monacan) led the Hornets with nine kills and three blocks, Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) tacked on seven kills, and Kritter also added five kills.

 In the final match of the EMU Tournament, the Hornets would suffer a three-set defeat at the hands of Mary Washington - losing 25-12, 25-17, and 25-14. Tinsley contributed with 23 digs while Kritter had 12 digs and six kills. Jones collected three aces and two blocks, Wheeler posted 14 assists, and Erin Heffelfinger (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) hit 14 kills.

Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) was named to the All-Tournament team.

 Lynchburg (2-2) will take to the road again next weekend, traveling to Greensboro College Friday and Saturday for the Greensboro College Invitational.
