Full 2008 Division III STX/NFHCA Preseason Poll

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team, fresh off an NCAA Tournament berth and first-round win in 2007, were slated No. 17 in the 2008 pre-season STX/National Field Hockey Coaches of America poll, released Tuesday.

The Hornets, who were 19-5 last season, return nine starters off a team that won the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament title. LC earned 96 total points in the poll, which sandwiched it between No. 16 Tufts University (MA) with 101 and No. 18 St. Lawrence University (NY) with 67.

Bowdoin University (ME) captured the top spot, earning 414 points including 18 of the 21 first place votes. Salisbury University (MD) was second in the poll with 358 points, garnering the remaining three top spot tallies, while the College of New Jersey, Ursinus College (PA) and Lebanon Valley College (PA) round out the top five.

LC will battle three of the preseason top-25 teams, including an in-state tussle with No. 10 Christopher Newport University on Oct. 8 in Newport News, VA. The Hornets will also square off with No.11 Johns Hopkins University (MD) on Sat., Sept. 13, and in a rematch of last year's NCAA second-round game, LC and Lebanon Valley square off on Shellenberger Field Saturday, Sept. 6.
