Dr. Kenneth Garren, President of Lynchburg College, expressed his appreciation to the School of Business and Economics Student Board of Advisors (SBOA) for their many contributions to the School, saying "Citizenship is at the heart of change. Your willingness to participate meaningfully in the governance of your School and to have a voice in the direction it takes will ensure that we remain current in our programs and responsive to changing student needs." Garren has invited the students on the Board to join him for lunch in the Burton Executive Dining Room when they return to campus for the start of fall semester. The Student Board of Advisors (SBOA), comprised of fifteen students nominated by the faculty and representing all of the academic departments within the School of Business and Economics, works directly with the School Dean to help shape programs and policies. Last semester, SBOA was heavily involved in discussions on curriculum enhancement and community building. "I know of no other group on campus that can boast a participation rate consistently in excess of 90 percent. They'd meet all night if I let them," joked Dr. Joe Turek, Dean of the School. "These students have played an integral role in moving the School forward," he remarked, "and can legitimately claim credit for some of the many innovations being introduced this year. I can't imagine doing my job without the benefit of their input." The Student Board is currently helping to plan the program for the School's first Opening Convocation, scheduled for Saturday, September 13. The Convocation will include a presentation by an alumni speaker and will be followed by a School-wide barbeque at the Townhomes Pavilion.
