What does New Horizons facilitate?
New Horizons is not a "one size fits all" team-building ropes course. Rather, we have developed a variety of leadership workshops to suit the specific needs of an organization through experiential education. These programs go beyond just teaching leadership skills; they strive to find, foster, enhance, and develop the skills you already have.

Who can benefit from New Horizons programs?
New Horizons is able to serve a wide variety of groups because we can draw so much from the Lynchburg College community. College and university programs, national fraternities and sororities, churches, youth organizations, and local non-profit organizations commonly use our services throughout the year.
New Horizons is also able to provide corporate training, thanks to our partnership with the Walter G. Mason Center for Business Development and Economic Research. Founded in 1988, the Walter G. Mason Center for Business Development is committed to playing a prominent role in the study of regional business development. The Center provides the means for identifying and addressing problems and issues common to organizational development and growth and is uniquely qualified to deliver employee training opportunities, business seminars, workshops, and forums.
The Center’s client list includes:
AREVA, Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce, Ericsson, Diebold, J. Crew, James T. Davis/Davis-Frost Paints, Campbell County, First Community Bank, Frito-Lay, Sprint, Grayson Electronics, Centra, Southern Air, Framatome, and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Topics covered by the Mason Center include:
Visioning
Strategic planning
Effective sales and marketing
Technology training
Improving communication
Understanding diversity
Enhanced team-building skills
Change management
Leadership and management institutes
Where are programs offered?
Adventure Course: The New Horizons Adventure Course is located on the campus of Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the Claytor Nature Center in Bedford, Virginia.
Only minutes from downtown Lynchburg, the adventure course provides the perfect setting for your adventure training experience. The course is the largest in the Lynchburg area.
Claytor Nature Study Center: Situated in Bedford County, Virginia, at the base of the Peaks of Otter, the Claytor Nature Study Center is the area's only college-owned nature center. With 470 acres, an outdoor pavilion, and the A. Boyd Claytor III Education and Research Center, the Claytor Nature Study Center will provide an excellent backdrop for your group.
Wherever you want us: Many of our leadership workshops are portable and require little more than an open field or large classroom. We have traveled from North Carolina to Indiana to Massachusetts, and we can easily travel to you. So whether you're at a public/private school, business, or in nature, we can meet at your facility.
When are programs offered?
Courses are offered throughout the year when the weather is conducive to outdoor activities. We can host evening or foul-weather programs on campus at Beaver Point, Wake Field House, Turner Gymnasium, Claytor Nature Center, or a classroom.
