Be a Good Neighbor
Be a Good Neighbor is a new joint campaign between RHA and the Office of Residence Life. As we are beginning the Year of the Citizen, consider what it means to be a good neighbor - a positive role model within your community. What do you expect from others? What do you expect from yourself?
Mind your noise
Everyone loves to jam out to some good tunes...a little Journey or Bon Jovi in the afternoon goes a long way. BUT, not everyone loves to hear your music at 3 o'clock in the morning. Be considerate and abide by the College's quiet and courtesy hours.
Establish community expectations
At the beginning of the year, take time to talk to your neighbors or ask an RA to help you create community expectations. These guidelines will set goals and expectations for the year that apply to all. Accountability and responsibility are key to a successful neighbor relationship.
Introduce yourself to your neighbors
Take the time and make the effort to introduce yourself to your neighbors. These people might get under your skin, but they can be a huge help when you are locked out of your room in a towel or are locked out of your house during a storm.
Keep it green and pick it up
We are all part of a much larger community - a global community - and we need to work together to "Green Up" our world. Bags and bins for recycling are located throughout the campus and residential facilities for your use. Help us make our campus, our state, and our world a better place.
Say "hello"
Being a good neighbor doesn't end when you leave your residence. When you see your neighbors on campus or in the surrounding community, take the time and the effort to say hello and be courteous. This can go a long way.
Be aware of those living around you
Be aware of the fact that LC is surrounded by neighborhoods of people who are not associated with LC. Many of them have young children or have to get up early for work. Be considerate when you are walking back to campus or in the surrounding community.
Look out for yourself and others
Part of being a good neighbor is paying attention to your surroundings and being safe. When walking around Lynchburg after dark, always go in small groups. If you see someone vandalizing property or making your living environment unsafe, notify Safety and Security at 434-544-8100.
Respect your home
While you are living on-campus, your residence hall/house/apartment is your home. Treat it with respect so that future LC students can enjoy our buildings for years to come.
