Two Lynchburg College graduate scholarships, the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund and the Beverly W. Powell Scholarship Fund, are available to Altavista area educators during the upcoming 2008-2009 school year. Deadline for interested applicants is July 31.

"We have enjoyed our past collaborative work with Altavista area educators and look forward to continuing to support the professional development of teachers," said Ed Polloway, dean of Graduate Studies.

The Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 by the chamber and area businesses to provide financial support to teachers serving Altavista and area schools. The scholarship provides support for enrollment in one of the graduate programs in Lynchburg College's School of Education and Human Development.

The Beverly W. Powell Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by the Beverly W. and Hampton O. Powell foundation in Altavista. Income from this fund provides support to students from Campbell and Pittsylvania counties, with preference to those from the Altavista area, who are pursuing a graduate degree in an area of special education at LC.
