September 11th Quilt

Two quilts made by Lynchburg College faculty, staff, students, and alumni have been acquired with dozens of others by the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City.

The September 11 Quilt Memorial Project was conceived by fabric artist Drunell Levinson of New York in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. The project was modeled after the AIDS memorial quilt project

In September 2002, the Daura Gallery sponsored a quilting bee in which LC faculty, staff, students, and alumni made two memorial quilts. A year later, in September 2003, the Daura Gallery exhibited 24 quilts, including the two LC quilts, which were also part of the project. The entire collection has now been acquired by the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York.
