Bookstore new look

A more open, updated layout at the Lynchburg College Bookstore in the Burton Student Center is getting rave reviews from visitors.

"Students and faculty are just blown away," said bookstore manager Jill Farley. "The store had not been updated since 1989. One of our goals was to de-clutter and make more efficient use of our space. In this instance, less is more."

In addition to textbooks and other books, the store features LC clothing, memorabilia, greeting cards, school supplies, and health and beauty aids.

The College hired a college store design company to work on the layout and recommend shelving.

Farley said she is most proud of how the LC community worked together to make the renovation happen in less than 12 weeks. The bookstore remained operational for all but three days during the transition. The bookstore temporarily moved across the hall to occupy part of the Westover Room (snack bar) during the remodeling.

The new look isn't just aesthetically pleasing. "I'm hoping sales will go up because we'll be selling more of what students are buying and they'll be able to see what we have," Farley said.

The public is always welcome in the bookstore, Farley said, but noted that a visit in the summer months before the fall session begins makes it easier to find a parking space on campus.

The bookstore is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located on the first floor of the Burton Student Center. Special hours and closings are listed at www.lynchburg.edu/bookstore or by calling 434/544-8239, option 1.
