LC’s Scott Decker Named Co-ODAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Year

SALEM, VA – Lynchburg College senior Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) was named the co-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. Former Hornet Andy Rollins earned the men’s award last spring, and like Decker, competed specifically in the pole vault.

Decker earned All-American honors last month at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He took third place in the pole vault, clearing 16’3 1/4” to capture All-American accolades for the first time in his career.

Decker won the pole vault competition at the ODAC Indoor Championships and also won the event in outdoor competition. Decker has received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award four times, having earned the honor in a vote of the ODAC’s sports information directors for indoor and outdoor track each of the past two academic years.  He was also recently named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District First Team, making him eligible for Academic All-American honors.

Decker shares the men’s award with Bridgewater College’s Melvin Queen, while Roanoke College’s Robin Yerkes was the Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
