Men's lacrosse player Ryan Cranston ( West Chester, PA/Henderson) was recently drafted by the San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse, and he and a number of his teammates were named to the All-State Team. Four LC baseball players were likewise honored.
Cranston was drafted in the fourth round at the #32 pick. He was one of just three Division III players picked in the 50-pick draft and was the first D3 player drafted. Lynchburg College head coach Steve Koudelka on the accomplishment, "This is a great honor for Ryan. He had an outstanding career as a student-athlete at Lynchburg College. LC goalie Garrett Curran ( Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) was recently tabbed as the State Player of the Year. Curran was named the ODAC Player and Scholar Athlete of the Year as well as a second-team All-American. Joining Curran on the first-team was Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson). Tolson was a second-team All-ODAC honoree after leading the team in goals with 42. Cranston earned first-team All-ODAC and second-team All-American accolades along with being drafted by Major League Lacrosse.
Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers), Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul's), and Chris Perzinski (Freeland, MD/Hereford) were named to the second-team. Weis was a first-team All-ODAC performer and third-team All-American this spring after leading the team in scoring with 58 points. Black was named first-team All-ODAC and honorable mention All-American, scoring 30 goals and six assists. Perzinski was honored on the All-ODAC first team and a third-team All-American.
Four LC baseball players were honored with All-State accolades. Senior first baseman Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage), junior pitcher Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) and sophomore third baseman Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) all took home first-team honors. Crews finished third on the team in hitting, while setting a new LC single-season standard for doubles with 21.
Devlin, who was recently named an ABCA All-American, finished the year with a 9-0 record also sporting the nation's fourth best earned-run average at 1.04. Taylor ended his second season at Lynchburg with a .392 batting average, boasting consecutive walk-off singles against Guilford College and Averett University back in March.
Senior shortstop Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) took home honorable-mention All-State honors. LaBrie was the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2008, placing his name in the top-five in 16 of 18 offensive categories posted on the league's website.
