Dr. George Miaoulis Jr., Donaldson Brown Professor of Marketing in the School of Business and Economics at Lynchburg College, is the 2008 recipient of the James A. Huston Award for Excellence in Scholarship.
The award recognizes a faculty member who has made noteworthy scholarly contributions to his or her field of endeavor. Originally established in 1964 as the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award, it was renamed in 1979 in honor of Dr. James A. Huston, dean of the College, 1972-84, who remains a strong supporter of scholarly activities.
Dr. Miaoulis was recognized for his extensive research and publication. Since coming to LC in 2004, he has published seven journal articles, written one book chapter, and given eight peer-reviewed presentations. His research is practical and intentionally involves others, and he often coauthors with colleagues and students.
One of his most recent projects, published in 2008, focuses on the relationship between physicians and patients, while another recent study, Branding the State of Maine for the 21 Century, reviews the brand image of Maine to help determine if a specific slogan actually attracts people to that state. His article, Altering Corporate Strategic Criteria to Reflect the Changing Environment: The Role of Life Satisfaction and the Growing Senior Market, is used by scholars as the basis for research in marketing to seniors.
Dr. Miaoulis earned his B.S. in economics, his M.B.A., and his Ph.D. in marketing and statistics from New York University.
