Dr. Jong H. Kim, professor of music and director of choral activities and coordinator of graduate studies in music at Lynchburg College, will direct the Washington Soloist Ensemble in its spring concert, "Songs of Hope." The concert will take place at 7 p.m. June 7 at Vienna Baptist Church, 541 Marshall Road, Vienna, Va.
The ensemble will perform selections from various musical periods, as well as choral arrangements of Korean art songs. Selections include Bach's Motet; Pinkham's Gaudeant Sancti (Let the Saints Rejoice); Copland's The Promise of Living; Morricone's Nella Fantasia (In My Fantasy); Caldwell and Ivory's Hope for Resolution; familiar hymn arrangements of When Peace Like a River, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, Psalm 150, and Remember Me; spirituals; and several Korean art songs celebrating springtime and nature.
The Washington Soloist Ensemble consists of professional and selected accomplished amateur singers, most of whom are of Korean heritage. One of the ensemble's primary goals is the promotion of a mutual understanding and appreciation among Asians and Americans of their musical heritages. The ensemble has performed in numerous concert halls, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and presents three concerts annually, as well as many benefit concerts for community organizations.
Concert tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. For more information, contact Dr. Kim at 434/544-8443 or kim@lynchburg.edu.
