Four LC Hornets Garner All-South Region Baseball Honors
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior first baseman Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and junior pitcher Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) took home first-team All-Region honors Tuesday, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Crews and Devlin helped LC to its most wins in school history, as the Hornets finished with 32 victories and a NCAA South Regional berth. Crews ended the season with a .374 batting average, connecting on a school-record 21 doubles and seven homers. Devlin posted a 9-0 record this season, while sporting a 1.04 earned run average and a .232 batting average against.
Senior shortstop Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) and sophomore third baseman Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) earned second-team honors. LaBrie, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) player of the year, led LC with a .428 batting average. Taylor sported a .392 batting clip, stealing 25 bags and driving in 42 runs.
Christopher Newport University shortstop Trae Bailey was the South Region Player of the Year, while teammate Kenny Moreland took home regional pitcher of the year accolades.
Lynchburg ended its season with a 32-12 record, making its first postseason appearance since 1983.
