
Nancy Schneider, professor of accounting at Lynchburg College, received the 2008 Sydnor Professorship Award for Teaching Excellence in Business. She also received the award in 2002.
The Sydnor award is named for C. Raine Sydnor Sr., a distinguished LC alumnus and a founder of the College's Board of Overseers, and has been given annually since 1989. Nominations are submitted by faculty colleagues or students.
Schneider has been teaching accounting since 1983, first at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and, since 1990, at Lynchburg College. Prior to teaching she was employed as an auditor by the international public accounting firm Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young), and as an internal auditor for an oil and gas corporation. She also taught math in Florida public schools.
Schneider received her B.S. in math education with high honors from the University of Florida and her master of professional accountancy from Georgia State University.
The author of numerous articles and manuals, Schneider is particularly interested in teaching pedagogy and how students learn. She employs a variety of teaching methods in her classes, including active learning techniques, to enhance student achievement.
A recipient of the Shirley E. Rosser Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest recognition of effective teaching offered by LC, Schneider is known for her commitment to students and student learning. She enjoys advising and counseling students on both an academic and personal level. She is readily available to both current and prospective students.
Schneider maintains a current CPA license and also serves on the board of the Lynchburg Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.
