Salisbury Rallies for 5-3 Win Over LC Baseball in NCAA Regional Action

Box Score vs. Salisbury

DANVILLE, VA - The Lynchburg College baseball team dropped its first game this season when leading after five innings, falling to Salisbury University 5-3 Friday night in NCAA South Regional Action from Dan Daniel Park in Danville, VA.

Lynchburg jumped on Salisbury starter Jeff Feigl early on, scoring two runs in the top of the first to give the Hornets an early lead. LC's offense went stagnant after that, not scoring again until a RBI single in the ninth inning by Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage).

The Sea Gulls (41-3) showed why they are ranked No. 4 in the country late, as they scored five runs in the bottom half of the eighth for the deciding edge. In that stanza, SU loaded the bases with none down and Mike Celenza cleared them with a three-run double. Celenza then scored on a RBI double by Mike Bostwick, which proved to be the game-winning RBI.

LC managed only five hits on the evening, as Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Crews each finished with two hits. Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) also had a RBI single in the first inning for the Hornets, who now fall into the loser's bracket for championship Saturday.

Hornet starter Connor Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoirs) tossed a fantastic game, getting out of trouble on multiple occasions. He finished with four runs allowed on 10 hits, striking out six Sea Gull hitters. All but one Sea Gull had a hit, led by Justin Armiger's three base knocks. Feigl threw a complete-game, surrendering three runs on five hits.

Lynchburg (32-12) now plays Johns Hopkins University tomorrow at noon in game 10 of the tournament, having to win that game to advance to the championship game at 4 p.m.
