Four Hornets Dot All-Region Softball Team
Elizabeth Perkins Lands First-Team Spot

  Elizabeth Perkins
LYNCHBURG, VA – Four Lynchburg College student-athletes were honored Wednesday with the release of the All-Atlantic Regional Softball Team, including senior third-baseman Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) earning first-team accolades.

Perkins, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year, leads the ODAC in batting average (.411), slugging percentage (.811), and on-base percentage (.587). She is second in the conference in home runs (11) and third in runs batted in (46), and has been walked a league-high 56 times.

Junior centerfielder Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) and junior first-baseman Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) nabbed second-team all-region honors. Allsop, a second-team All-ODAC honoree, is second on the team with a .381 batting average and leads the squad with 41 runs and 12 stolen bases. Campbell hit .368 for the season and belted seven home runs to go along with 30 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) earned third-team All-Region honors. The freshman pitcher/designated player was named the conference’s rookie of the year and joined Perkins on the All-ODAC first-team.

Lynchburg (36-5) won the ODAC regular season and tournament championship and is ranked sixth in NCAA Division III. LC travels to Fayetteville, NC and host Methodist University for first-round action in a seven-team, double elimination regional. The first-seeded Hornets start play Thursday at 4 p.m. against the winner of an earlier game between Georgia rivals Emory University and LaGrange College.
