Hornet Track Has Outstanding Night at Liberty Twilight
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College outdoor track and field teams had numerous noteworthy performances Friday at the Liberty University Twilight Qualifier.
The Hornet 4x100 men’s relay team of J.J. Johnson (Lynchburg, VA/Amherst County), Richard Noles (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester), Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) and Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) bettered their NCAA Provisional Qualifying time by running a 41.43 – the second-fastest time recorded in school history. The 4x400 relay squad team of Word, Will Tolbert (Missouri City, TX/Hightower), Edwards and Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) won the event in 3:13.53 and also provisionally qualified for national competition. Word and Edwards ran 21.72 and 21.84 respectively, in the 200 meter dash, and Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) tied his NCAA qualifying distance of 15’7” in the pole vault.
Senior Danielle Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) paced the LC women’s team with solid performances in three events. She ran a personal-best 15.58 in the 100-meter hurdles, leaped 10.66 meters in the triple jump and cleared 1.57 meters in the high jump. Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) had heaves of 11.33 in the shot put and 39.02 in the hammer, Krystle Landes (Staunton, VA/Wilson) threw a personal-best 31.04 in the javelin and Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) won the steeplechase.
