LC Softball Reaches ODAC Championship game
Defeats EMU 4-2

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College won its second game of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon, outlasting Eastern Mennonite University 4-2. The Hornets advance to the tournament’s championship game slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Neither team could get on the scoreboard until the Hornets scored three in the top of the fourth frame, aided by two Royal errors. Senior shortstop Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) tacked on an insurance run with a solo home run with one out in the top of the fifth. EMU plated an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, and again threaten in the bottom of the seventh. With one run across the plate, a runner at first and two out, the potential tying run grounded out.

Freshman Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) earned the win for LC, going all seven frames, with six strikeouts and just one earned run and four hits. Lynchburg managed just six hits off EMU started Natasha Viafora.

Lynchburg (35-5), ranked seventh this week in NCAA Division III, will have the opportunity to capture the ODAC title for the second-straight season Sunday at 1 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament’s championship game. The winner of loser’s bracket will face Lynchburg Sunday at 1 p.m. in the title game and will have to defeat LC twice to earn the title. The Hornets just have to post one victory to bring home the crown.
