LC Softball Advances with 15-7 win over Bridgewater in ODAC Tourney

SALEM, VA – The seventh-ranked Lynchburg College softball team defeated Bridgewater College 15-7 in six innings in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Friday night.

After an un-earned run for the Eagles in the top of the first, LC exploded for seven in its half of the first, blasting four home runs. Junior Brittany Allsop (Milford, Ct/Jonathan Law) led off with a double the opposite way, and Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) followed with an RBI single. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) drew a walk, and junior Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) cleared the bases with a three-run blast to center field to put LC ahead early 4-0. Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross), Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) and Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) each added solo home runs before the third out was recorded.

The Eagles rallied with five runs in the top of the fourth inning to climb back to 9-7, but LC put the game away by scoring in each of the last three innings, the last on a second solo shot by Swank. Swank finished the day 4-4 with three runs and two RBI, Della Rosa was 3-4 with three runs and three RBI, Campbell was 2-2 with five RBI. Kaitlyn Bowman finished 203 with three RBI and two runs for BC (24-14).

The Hornets (34-5) will face Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the winner’s bracket semifinals.
