At the end of each academic year, students leave behind furniture, appliances, food, household goods, clothes, and books. This year, Lynchburg College is stepping up its efforts to gather discarded articles and donate them to Goodwill as part of its "Year of the Environment" emphasis.
For several years, the College has provided dumpsters to the campus community for students to dispose of these items; however, many students in the townhouses and houses do not take advantage of this service.
Goodwill boxes will continue to be placed in the residence halls in the main lounge/entrance ways and will be labeled for various items. The boxes will be distributed by SERVE by May 1.
Dumpsters will also arrive on campus May 1 in seven locations: parking lots at Montgomery, Tate, Turner, the townhouses, the Vernon Street gravel lot, the College Street gravel lot, and the freshman parking lot.
There will also be a large Goodwill drop-off location in the Turner Parking lot, located close to Wakefield House, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning May 1.
LC faculty, staff, and students will be using trucks provided by Goodwill to go door-to-door to collect items and ensure that these goods get to the people who need them. Items will be picked up at the following times:
May 5, 6, and 7: 12-2 and 5-7 p.m.
May 10 3-5 p.m.
May 11 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
