LC Softball Wins Suspended Game against Randolph-Macon
Eighth-Ranked Hornets Enter ODAC Tourney as #1 Seed

ASHLAND, VA – Its finally over. The Lynchburg College softball team defeated Randolph-Macon College 7-6 Wednesday in a game that had been rained out on April 5, and later called due to darkness on April 15.

The contest was re-started in the top of the eighth inning and the score tied 6-6. Lynchburg scored in the top of the eighth to take a 7-6 lead, and senior Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) threw out a Yellow Jacket runner at home in the bottom of the frame and the Hornets held on for the win.

Junior Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) finished the game she started eight days earlier, scattering nine hits to earn her 14th win of the season. Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) went 3-4 in the game, while designated hitter Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) also was 3-5 and belted a solo home run and stole two bases. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) and Tara Campbell (Loudoun County/Leesburg) each had two base-hits.

Randolph-Macon would have captured the sixth and final seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament this weekend with a win, but instead ends the season at 24-14 overall and 7-11 in conference play. Barchick was 3-4 for the Yellow Jackets, and Mauck, Long and Newton each homered.

Lynchburg ends the regular season with a 33-5 record, including a 16-2 ODAC mark. The Hornets enter the conference tournament this weekend (Apr. 25-27 in Salem, VA) as the top seed. LC will play at 7 p.m. Friday evening against the winner of the Roanoke College/Bridgewater College contest earlier in the afternoon.
