Lynchburg Squeaks Past Hampden-Sydney 10-9

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The fifth-ranked Lynchburg College men’s lacrosse team held on late to squeak out a win over Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday. The win seals a perfect 6-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference record.

Lynchburg went up 4-0 with 7:49 left in the first quarter, but the Tigers roared back, scoring four of the next seven goals to send the game into the half down 7-4. The Tigers took control of the contest in the second half, winning the third quarter 2-0 and would go on to score the first three goals of the second half to tie the game at seven with 13:09 left in the game. LC got back on board, scoring the next three goals to go up 10-7. Lynchburg would hold on to that lead until less than a minute ago when the Tigers struck back, scoring a goal with 54 and 33 seconds left in the game to make it a one goal game. LC would win the ensuing face-off to run the clock out to win the game.

Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul’s) led all scorers with four goals and Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) had a goal and one assist. Goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) notched 15 saves in net while Norby King (Bryn Mawr, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) was 7-13 on face-offs and Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/Tabor Academy) went 6 for 10.
