LC Women’s Lax Falls to Virginia Wesleyan 21-11

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College women’s lacrosse team fell to Virginia Wesleyan College 21-11 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament quarterfinals Wednesday, ending the 2008 season for the Hornets.

LC jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Katie Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) and Emily McMillan (Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Friends). The third-seeded Marlins responded with an 8-0 run, getting five goals from Jillian Boyd during that spurt. LC cut the lead to seven at 13-6 shortly after the beginning of the second half, but three VWC tallies put the game out of reach for the Hornets.

Ollice led the Hornets with five goals, scoring on five of her seven shot attempts. McMillan ended up finding the net twice, while Deana Welsch (Yorktown Hts., NY/Yorktown), Lindsey Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) and Kelsey Johnson (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) all scored once. Seniors Kaity Johnston (Herndon, VA/Herndon) assisted on one tally, and Nichole Locher (Yorktown Hts., NY/Yorktown) buried a goal late in the second half.

Boyd finished with a game-high nine scores for the Marlins, which is the most in a game in the ODAC this season. VWC’s Kasey Marchwicki and Laura Norris both scored three times, with teammates Kathryn Simmons and Bethany Adomanis each notching a pair of goals for the hosts. With the win, the Marlins will now take on Washington & Lee University in the semi-final round of the ODAC tournament.

The Hornets finish the 2008 season with an 8-9 record this year, going 3-5 in the conference.
