#5 Lynchburg Men’s Lacrosse Blazes Past Roanoke 18-10

SALEM, VA – The fifth ranked Lynchburg College men’s lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Roanoke College 18-10 behind 19 saves from senior goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy). With the win, LC secures the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.
Roanoke’s Billy Cameron won the first face-off and scored the first goal of the game at 14:27 off a feed from Trey Keeley. LC answered back with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. The rest of the first quarter was back-and-forth with LC going into the second quarter leading 6-4.
LC out-scored Roanoke 3-2 in the second stanza to go into the half with a 9-6 lead. Roanoke outshot LC 25-24 in the half and held a 26-19 advantage in groundballs. Roanoke was 9-16 on face-offs and each team had eight successful clears.
LC took control of the game after intermission, reeling off five straight goals to take a commanding 14-6 lead. The Maroons answered back with three straight goals to cut the lead to 14-9, but the Hornets closed out the game on a 4-1 run to secure the 18-10 win.
Lynchburg was led by Curran’s 19 saves, and Michael Mundorf (Catonsville, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph) and Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) each scored five times along with an assist. Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul’s) also tallied three goals while Norby King (Bryn Mawr, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) scooped up five groundballs and won 11 face-offs.
Ashton Hotchkiss found the back of the net three times for Roanoke while Billy Cameron tallied three scores and one assist along with 10 faceoff wins and 10 groundballs. Stephen Simmons collected two scores, and goalie Jake Dorsey made nine saves.
Roanoke outshot Lynchburg 47-46 and held a 46-31 edge in groundballs. Roanoke finished 19 for 30 on face-offs and were successful on 19 of 23 clear attempts compared to 25 for 25 for the Hornets. Roanoke committed 10 penalties for 8:30 minutes and LC committed nine for seven minutes.
Lynchburg looks to go undefeated in the ODAC on Wednesday as they travel to Hampden-Sydney, VA, on Wednesday with the game time set for 4 p.m.
