Hornets Earn ODAC Tournament Berth with 22-13 Win At Sweet Briar

                SWEET BRIAR, VA – Junior Deana Welsch (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored five times Saturday as the Lynchburg College women’s lax team earned the final spot in the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament with a 22-13 win at Sweet Briar College.

                SBC (5-7/2-6 ODAC) jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead, but the Hornets fought back with three unanswered goals to even the score at four. The Vixens went back ahead on a goal by Stewart Hulfish, but Lynchburg took the lead for good with a four goal spurt, getting two scores each from Patty Sheahan (Lutherville, MD/St. Timothy’s) and Emily McMillan (Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Friends).

                Morgan Logue (Barrington, IL/Barrington) supplemented Welsch’s five goals with four of her own. Senior Nichole Locher (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored three times to go with two assists, while Katie Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) scored three times and dished out two assists. Kaity Johnston (Herndon, VA/Herndon) led LC with four assists.

                Hulfish led all scorers with six goals, while Meredith Newman, Ellie Donahue and Megan Behrle all scored twice for Sweet Briar.

                Lynchburg (8-8/3-5 ODAC) will compete in the six-team ODAC Tournament quarter-finals this Wednesday with opponent, time and location yet to be determined.
