Hornet Baseball Banishes Monarchs With 8-4 Win Monday

Box Score vs. Methodist

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore right hander Spencer Garrett (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) tossed four innings of brilliant relief Monday as the Hornets rallied to knock off the Monarchs of Methodist University in an important region non-conference game from Fox Field.

Garrett, who took over for LC starter Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty) in the fifth inning with Methodist up one run, was tremendous holding MU to just four hits over the next four innings to allow his LC teammates to rally for the win. Lynchburg posted single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, before getting three insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) continued to hammer the baseball, as he was 4-4 with two RBI and a run scored. LaBrie now has hits in 11 of his last 14 at-bats, all but one of them singles. David Gaines (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) was 2-3 with a run and RBI, while Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) and Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) had two hits apiece.

MU was led by Mike Twichell, who finished with three hits in five at-bats, driving in one. Kevin Eudy was 2-3 with two runs scored, with Brian Halpin doubling twice and driving in two runs. Methodist threw seven pitchers Monday, as the USA South Conference Tournament approaches Thursday. With the win, LC takes the season series over Methodist after both teams split a two-day series down in Fayetteville, NC.

Lynchburg will entertain Bridgewater College Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Fox Field in the last two league games of the season.
