Box Score vs. VWC (Game Two)

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team won the opener of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twinbill with Virginia Wesleyan College 2-1 in 10 innings, but dropped the second game 3-1 Sunday on a windy, cold day from Fox Field.

Game one saw two fantastic pitching performances, as LC’s Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) and VWC’s David Imperato each kept their teams in it. Devlin went nine innings, allowing no earned runs and six hits, while Imperato worked eight and a third scattering eight hits.

LC (25-9/13-3 ODAC) scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth, as Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) scored Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) with a foul sacrifice fly down the left field line. Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) and Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) collected three hits apiece, while Crews had both RBI for the Hornets.

In the nightcap, the Marlins (21-12-1/10-5 ODAC) scored single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings and starter Daniel Samuels made it stand up. Samuels pitched seven strong frames, giving up only four hits and one earned run. Hornet starter Connor Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoir) tossed seven and third innings, giving up three runs on nine hits.

Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and LaBrie were each 2-3 in game two, while Taylor finished 1-4 with a RBI. C.J. Rhodes was 2-4 in game one for the Marlins, with teammates Max Axelrod, Kevin Nally and Phil Cadle all posting two or more hits in game two.

The Hornets entertain Methodist University tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m on Fox Field.
