LC Hosts Track and Field Classic
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted 15 teams Saturday at the LC Classic on Shellenberger Field.
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team of Kyra Richardson (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian), Jessica Gibbs (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), Shawn Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam) and Chevonne Booker (Richmond, VA/Thomas Jefferson) broke the school record in 49.99. Booker recorded times of 12.92 and 27.25 in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, respectively, while Richardson (26.29) and Jackson (26.73) each notched personal bests in the 200. Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) ran a 4:57.83 in the 1,500, Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) finished the 800 in 2:23.53 and Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) had a heave of 38.68 meters in the hammer throw. Danielle Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) had good performances in the long jump (5.03 meters) and the high jump (1.52 meters).
Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) won the men’s 400-meter dash in 48.22, and Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.45 and was fourth the 200 in 21.91. Richard Noles (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) crossed the finish line in 11.10 in the 100-meters, J.J. Johnson (Lynchburg, VA/Amherst County) ran a 15.72 in the 110-hurdles and Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) completed the `1,500 in 4:04.74 to place third. Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) had a time of 1:58.13 in the 800 meters to also take third.
The Hornets will compete in the Old Dominion Athletic conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championships this Friday and Saturday at Roanoke College.
