Jon Nichols Named ODAC Pitcher Of The Week
SALEM, VA - Hornet junior pitcher Jon Nichols (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball Pitcher of the week Monday as announced by the league office.
Nichols tossed a gem last Wednesday against Hampden-Sydney College, as he went eight innings getting his fourth win of the season. He scattered five hits and walked one, while striking out seven Tiger hitters. He also helped Lynchburg secure a spot in the ODAC tournament, which starts later this month at Lynchburg's City Stadium.
This marks the seventh time this season a Hornet has been honored by the conference, and third pitcher to be named athlete of the week. Junior pitchers D.W. Moore (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty) both earned accolades earlier this season.
The Hornets (21-7/10-1 ODAC) will now battle H-SC again this Tuesday down in Hampden-Sydney, VA at 3:30 p.m. LC is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, its longest since 2004 when the Hornets put together 16-straight victories. Also, it's the first time since 1994 that Lynchburg has had three winnings streaks of five or more games.
