I learned how to put together schedules for an intramural softball league, allowing me to work closely with the intramural sports director. Interning for an intramural sports program gave me a chance to learn about the behind-the-scenes organization and setup of the program. I learned that it takes many hours to have a well-organized intramural sports program.
I would recommend an internship to anyone to get the experience. It shows the type of profession you are going to be working in.
The internship, or experiential learning, is an integral component of the sport management major because it gives you the opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real-life situations. An internship also enhances your personal portfolio and increases your professional contacts, ultimately boosting your job marketability.
Sport Management majors are required to complete 12 semester hours in internship, the maximum that may be applied toward the degree.
