LYNCHBURG, VA – The No. 6 Hornet softball team defeated Bridgewater College 8-1 in the first game, before turning around to capture the second game 8-0 in five innings in a doubleheader sweep of the Eagles Wednesday from Moon Field. LC extends its win streak to nine games with the twinbill sweep.

Seniors Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel) provided the thump for the Hornets in game one. Sandifer was 3-4 with four RBI, including a three-run shot in first inning. Swank was 3-3 in game one, with teammates Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) and Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) each going yard in game one. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington-Lee) scattered seven hits over seven innings as she earned her 11th win of the season.

In the nightcap, LC continued to mash the ball as Bruce and Allsop continued their success, each collecting three hits apiece. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna Co.) was 1-1 on the afternoon, drawing six base-on-balls over the two games. Bruce was stellar as usual in the circle, surrendering six hits in five innings for her second complete-game shutout of the season.

Jennifer Hall was 2-4 in game one for the Eagles (16-10/6-5 ODAC), with Laura Barry matching her with two hits in three at-bats in the opener.

Lynchburg (25-3/8-0 ODAC) now heads on an eight-game roadtrip, with the first stop being in Ashland, VA Saturday for a conference doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon starting at 1:30 p.m.
