Lauren Askey Continues To Add To Her Legacy
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) added to her impressive list of accolades this weekend as she was awarded with the 2008-09 Ethnic Minority and Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics, an honor that was bestowed upon only 13 student-athletes in the entire country.
Askey, who was always a standout on the soccer field, becoming a two-time All-American this season, has also been an example of the true meaning of the student-athlete. She boasts a 3.96 cumulative GPA with a major in athletic training, and was also the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2007 and 2006.
“Lauren’s personal conduct, whether in the classroom, in the Athletic Training Room, in a clinical setting, on the soccer field, or in the halls of LC is not just credible, but worthy of praise,” said Pat Aronson, PhD, ATC and Faculty Athletics Representative. Aronson added, “She is responsible and highly regarded by her peers, teammates, and professors. I have seen her tired and feeling poorly, but I have never heard her complain about it. I admire her initiative, use of sound judgment, and her critical thinking skills.”
Askey is scheduled to graduate with honors this May with a degree in athletic training, and she will use the $6,000 scholarship to defray costs of attending graduate school next year at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in its Master’s of Athletic Training program.
